Mary W. Stringfellow

(nee Willson) On August 15, 2023: Devoted wife of the late Allen; cherished mother of Leslie and Scott Stringfellow.

Mary grew up living with her family in the Haddonfield Kingsway Apartments. She attended the local schools and one special evening when she was in high school, she attended Mrs. Draper’s dance where she met Allen Stringfellow, her future husband. She attended Trenton State Teacher’s College, with roommate Jane Conner, where she received a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the elementary School system in Westmont until she received tenure.

After WWII, Mary and Al were married and Mary became the consummate homemaker; she was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting celebrations both with family and friends. She was a lifelong member of the Haddonfield First Presbyterian Church where she served in numerous lay leadership positions including Clerk of Session for many years and as the president of the Presbyterian Women’s Group. She also taught Sunday school and participated in the women’s circle groups. Mary was also a longtime member of the Haddon Fortnightly participating both in the Junior and Senior groups. Additionally, after Al retired, Mary took up golf so that they could travel and play golf with friends. She will be sorely missed by Leslie and Scott.

Mary’s family will receive friends on Saturday, November 9th from 10-10:45am at the First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield, 20 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, NJ;where her funeral service will immediately follow at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in remembrance of Mary may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield, at the above address.
