Betty Hughes

Age 64 of Haddonfield, NJ

Loving wife of Jeff Roberts and mother of their two adored children, passed away on October 22, 2021 after a long illness.  She was 64 years old.

She lived in Haddonfield, New Jersey for the last 38 years and also resided in Delray Beach, Florida.

Betty was the daughter of Mildred and the late Bill Hughes.  She was proud of both the rich Polish heritage of her mother and the fun-lovin’ southern ways of her father.  But she was born and raised in New Jersey, spending many summer days down the shore with friends and family while noshing on fudge and fresh lemonade from the boardwalk, boogie-boarding with the kids or playing paddle ball on the sand.

Betty graduated from Lehigh University in 1979 with a degree in chemical engineering and was employed by the Philadelphia firm of Rohm and Haas for sixteen years, mostly working in process research and environmental areas.  She loved the people and work experience at R&H and met her husband Jeff there.

In 1997 Betty joined Hughes Financial Services on a part-time basis while raising their children.  She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and sports, especially skiing and tennis.  She loved slapstick comedy, sending cartoon captions to the New Yorker, and singing in the car.  Much to the dismay of her family and friends in the Philadelphia area, Betty was a die-hard fan of the New York Giants.

She is survived by her devoted husband and her loving children, Emilia Roberts and wife Jennifer, and Scott Roberts and partner May Ledner.  She is also survived by her beloved mother Mildred and dear brother William Hughes.

A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions can be made to Save the Children (www.savethechildren.org), the Food Bank of South Jersey (www.FoodBanksj.org), or any charity of choice.

Betty loved reggae too.
