Patricia Lennon - Updated

Saturday, October 12, 2019, 10:30 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 200 Windsor Avenue, Haddonfield

Reception Following at Haddonfield Historical Society, 343 King’s Highway East, Haddonfield

A Memorial Service will be held for Patricia W. Lennon at Christ the King Catholic Church, Haddonfield, on Saturday, October 12 at 10:30 AM.  A reception will follow immediately at the Haddonfield Historical Society.  All are welcome.

Pat Lennon — Patty, Aunt Ricia, Mrs L, Mrs Lendoon, Patty Pie, Moosycat, Ma Lennon, Tough Muffin – took flight on June 12, at peace, in her own bed, surrounded by those who loved her the most. She was 97.

Anyone who knew Pat knew they enjoyed a special privilege. She was, in no particular order, kind, thoughtful, caring, incredibly smart, self-effacing, well-read, insightful, funny, energetic, generous, hard-working, honest, engaged, giving, involved, concerned, loving, tough as nails. She was also, in no particular order, an incredible Mom, an incredible grandmother, an amazing mother-in-law, a superb writer, an involved citizen, a knitter and needlepointer, a scrap-booker, a loving and supportive wife, a good tennis player, an ice skater, a true friend, and one Tough Muffin.

In the 1950’s Pat was on track to break the glass ceiling as an executive at Time, Inc. when she dropped that career to start another as a Mom and a contributor to her community.  For the next 50 years she was an active member of the Haddonfield Historical Society (of which she was three times president), Home School Association, PTA, American Field Service, Haddonfield Symphony, Interfaith Caregivers, Adoration Chapel, Haddonfield Democratic Club, Christ the King bereavement committee, Friends of the Library, Sunny Day School, Durand Academy (where she was Board Chair for close to 20 years), Haddonfield Planning Board (another 20-year engagement). Notwithstanding her accomplishments, she remained modest, self-effacing, and unpretentious. She was not about the limelight, demanding credit or seeking recognition. She was all about seeing a problem, addressing it, and getting things done. When she was recently honored by the Historical Society for her decades of contributions, her response was: “But why should I be recognized for doing something that I loved to do?” That was Pat Lennon.  She loved to do so much, and she did it all so very well.

Pat was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Jim Lennon, and by her brother Robert Willett.  She is survived by her son Mark (Martha) and grandsons Emerson (Chelsea) and Edgar (Caitlin), by her sister Marie Yelton (Doc), and by the many hundreds of people whose lives she touched for the better.

In lieu of flowers, Patty’s family asks that contributions be made to the Haddonfield Historical Society.
