Mary Louise Blake

(nee Harper), On Dec. 2, 2019, Age 79, of Haddonfield, NJ.  Beloved wife of William John, III; Loving mother of William John, IV (Dana) Blake of Weathersfield, VT, Elizabeth Mary (Lance, D.O.) Neveling of Haddonfield, NJ and  Caroline Harper (Joseph) Galone of NYC, NY; Devoted grandmother of Bonnie Elizabeth Blake, William John Blake, V, Abbey Elizabeth Neveling, Thomas William Neveling and Josephine Mary Galone; Dear sister of Anne (Jerry) Mauger & Jane (late, Harry) Hughes.

Mary was a life-long resident of Haddonfield and was happily married to Bill for 55 years.  She had a 30-year career at Cooper Hospital, starting off in Pediatrics followed by a long tenure in the Cardiothoracic ICU Department.  Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and crossword puzzles.  Bill and Mary also devoted their time to historical house renovation, and together lovingly restored a Samuel Sloan house on Washington Avenue in Haddonfield’s Historic District, where they lived for close to 40 years. She was a passionate animal lover, and enjoyed her summers at Ship Bottom, Long Beach Island.  Mary’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.

Caroline R. Sime

(nee Reisner) On December 1, 2019, age 69, of Haddon Hts., NJ, formerly of Philadelphia, Beloved wife of The Rev. Peter C.S. Sime; Loving mother of John Sime of Philadelphia, PA and Katie Sime of New York, NY and Dear sister of Anne R. Armetta (Paul), John H. Reisner, III and The Rev. James L. Reisner (Martha).

Carol graduated from Haddonfield Memorial HS, Hood College & received her Master’s from Montclair State Univ.  She was a teacher for the Friends Select School for 20 years and after retiring she was a frequent substitute.  Additionally, she was actively involved in First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia.

Carol’s family and friends are invited to her Memorial Service on Saturday, Dec. 14^th, 11 AM, at the First Presbyterian church of Haddonfield, 19 E. Kings Hwy. E., Haddonfield, NJ; where the family will receive friends following the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Carol may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield, the First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, the Friends Select Lower School or to the Charity of One’s Choice.

Carole J. Russell

(nee Aicher) On Nov. 30, 2019, age 74, longtime resident of Cherry Hill, NJ; wife of the late Steven; Beloved mother of Jennifer McCaffrey (Ted) of RI and Matthew Russell of Cherry Hill; Loving grandmother of Erin M., Brooke A. & Hannah G. McCaffrey and Dear sister of Ann Spitzkopf, Barbara A. Fisher (Tom) and Richard Aicher (Betty).

Carole passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be deeply missed.

Robert A. Hertzog

Herbert Wallace Hazen

On November 22, 2019 at age 94, Herb passed peacefully at his home in Haddonfield, NJ surrounded by his family.

He was the beloved husband for 69 years of Carolyn Louise (nee Key); loving father of Amy Vasko (Jack) of Richmond, VA and Andrea Hazen of London, England; dear uncle of two nephews and three nieces and their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Fred Wallace Hazen and Laura Lavah (nee Hedrick) and his much-cherished siblings William Robert “Bob” Hazen and Margaret Elizabeth “Peggy” Toops.

Born in Brookfield, MO and raised in Marceline, MO, in his early years, Herb enjoyed riding his bicycle, playing with his faithful dog Jigs, and fishing at the Santa Fe Country Club. In later years, he fondly remembered the sounds of the Santa Fe Railroad trains rolling through Marceline.

As a teenager, Herb met his future wife Carolyn at Hamilton Lake, IN, where they discovered a shared love of boating and spending time on the water. They married in 1950, settled in Haddonfield in 1962, and later built a home at Green Lake, ME, where lobster was frequently on the menu. He was devoted to Carolyn, his sweetheart and the love of his life.

Herb was an accomplished musician, in his early years playing the clarinet in the Marceline High School pep and marching bands and a local woodwind quartet. After settling in Haddonfield, Herb and Carolyn became long-term supporters of the Philadelphia Orchestra. At Green Lake (and elsewhere), Herb loved to lead his family and friends in kazoo marches and song.

Herb received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri in 1947. He then joined and spent his entire 39-year career with Babcock & Wilcox, managing the construction and repair of power plants throughout the eastern United States and internationally, including a 14-month assignment in Spain where he developed a lifelong passion for Spanish food and the language. He loved his work and the people with whom he worked and was regarded by those who knew him as a generous, trustworthy, dedicated manager.

After retiring, and having spent a lot of time on planes and traveling for work, Herb relished being at home with his wife in Haddonfield and at Green Lake, enjoying sleeping in, being with close friends, eating good food. He was an avid reader of several daily newspapers. His desire to be independent, self-sufficient, and not to have a fuss made over him remained with him for all of his days. He never lost his sense of humor, his desire for order, or his frequent use of ‘thank you’, ‘please’, and ‘is everyone okay?’.

Herb is greatly missed and will long be remembered as a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a gentleman.

Services will be held privately at Fountain Grove Cemetery in Bryan, OH. Memorial contributions in honor of Herb may be made to the Marceline (MO) Middle/High School Music Department or The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan, where Herb was recently recognized for 70 years of service.

Miriam Lenore Reier

(nee Williams)  On Nov. 18, 2019, age 84, of Burlington, NC; Loving mother of  Charles “Charlie” Henry (Kerri) of Burlington, NC and Kimberly Burnum (Winfield) of Voorhees, NJ: Beloved grandmother of Charles Henry Reier, Jr.; Dear sister of CarolAnn Stotzner (William) of FL and sister-in-law of John Reier of San Antonio, TX.  She was pre-deceased by her husband Charles Gandar Reier, sister Sandra Williams and her parents.

Miriam worked as an Office Administrator at RCA/Lockheed Martin for 35 years.  She enjoyed arts and crafts but most importantly she treasured time spent with her family.

Miriam’s family will receive friends on Friday Evening, Nov. 22^nd, 6-8 pm, and to her Service at 10 am on Saturday, Nov. 23^rd both at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield, NJ.  Interment, Colestown Cem., Cherry Hill, NJ.  The family requests that memorial gifts be forwarded to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405 or donations made to your local SPCA.

Mary Taylor Previte

(nee Taylor) On Nov. 16, 2019, of Haddonfield, age 87; devoted mother of Alice Ann of Haddonfield, NJ; beloved sister of Herbert (Kathleen) Taylor, John (Elizabeth) Taylor, and the late James Hudson Taylor, III; dear sister-in-law of Leone Taylor; and loving Aunt, Great Aunt and Great Great Aunt to generations of nieces and nephews.

Mary was a former NJ Assemblywoman for the 6th District (1998-2006).  She served as Superintendent of the Camden County Youth Center in Blackwood, NJ, for 31 years until her retirement.  Mary was an avid Haddonfield Crows Wood gardener, one of the founders of her beloved Roberts Avenue neighborhood group, and a quilter.  Mary was a joyful, active, and adventurous lady who will be deeply missed.

Elaine Alberts Fanjul

In the predawn hours on Saturday, November 16, 2019, Elaine Alberts Fanjul quietly and peacefully left this world. All six of her loving daughters had been with her in her last days. She was also expertly and kindly cared for by Compassionate Care Hospice.

Elaine was born in Jersey City, N.J. to Chet and Helen Alberts. Her husband of sixty years, Emilio “Mimi” Louis Fanjul died in June 2008. Theirs was a life long love affair.

Elaine is survived by her sister, Jane Kasse, also of Haddonfield, her brother, Jim Alberts and his wife Terry of Bay Head, NJ. She is survived by her daughters:  Stephanie Fanjul; Christine Wicker; Susie Larcamp (Dan); Beth Sprague (John); Kate Downey (Brian); and, Sarah Fanjul (Alex MacMoran) in addition to 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 12 nieces and nephews.

Elaine Fanjul was loving and formidable. Her family was her greatest love and utmost source of amusement, joy and pride. She instilled a sense of community and charity in her children and grandchildren. All those who knew and loved her, will sorely miss her generous spirit, keen wit and sharp intellect.

An active member of Grace Episcopal Church for more than 60 years, Elaine was a co-founder of the Grace Thrift Shop and regular worker bee up until this past August. She served on the Women’s Board of Cooper Hospital for 25 years in many capacities.

A skilled and avid gardener, she spent countless, pleasant hours tending her gardens.

A memorial service will be held on November 23, 2019 at Grace Episcopal Church, 19 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at 10:15 am at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Grace Episcopal Church or to the Food Bank of Southern New Jersey.

Brad Jones

On Nov. 14, 2019, age 84, Loving husband for 60 years of Sandra (nee Smith); Father of Pam (Gary) Garstkiewicz of Haddonfield & Amy (Paul) Bickhart of Wilmington, DE and Cherished grandfather of Erica (Greg) Berger and Jason & Kyle Garstkiewicz.

Brad was a member of the Merchantville Country Club, Past Commodore of the Surf City Yacht Club, active in Interfaith Caregivers and at one time a referee for both high school and college football. He owned and operated, Brad Jones Assoc., his medical supply company for over 35 years and was a Past Pres. of the Health Industry Representative Association.

Brad will be remembered for being an avid reader and a staunch supporter of his grandchildren’s sports. He loved traveling and most of all, his time on the golf course.

Sandra Walles

Sandra “Sandy” Walles, daughter of John “Harry” and June (deceased) Washington was born November 24, 1946, and grew up in Haddonfield, NJ. She attended Haddonfield High School and Moore College and went on to become an American Airlines stewardess before serving as office manager at her husband’s medical practice. She was an active member of the Haddonfield Garden Club and used her artistic passion to design and create the Club’s annual Philadelphia Flower Show submission.

Sandy passed away this month in Scottsdale, Arizona at the age of 72 and is predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. Peter Walles. She was always up for an adventure and would respond with “What Fun!” when there was a new trip or experience to be had. Sandy and Peter loved to travel and explore new places, and fell in love with Arizona on a visit out West, eventually moving there full-time 20 years ago.

Sandy is lovingly remembered by her four beautiful grandchildren: Ian and Samantha Coskey (ages 13 and 12) and Lilly Ryan and Jack Ryan Mallon (ages 7 and 4); her two children, Wendy Mallon of Haddonfield and Christopher Mallon of New Providence, NJ; her siblings Nancy Connell and Timothy “Tim” Washington of Haddonfield; and, her devoted father Harry Washington, a World War II bombardier and lifelong Haddonfield resident.

Sandy’s family will greet friends on Saturday, November 16, 2019, from 3:30-4:00 PM at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield, NJ; where her Service of Remembrance will follow at 4:00 PM.  Flowers may be delivered to the funeral home after noon on Friday, Nov.15^th or on Saturday, Nov. 16^th before 2:30 PM.
