Mario Joseph Loperfido

Mario Joseph Loperfido of Ocean City, NJ, formerly of Merchantville and Haddonfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maxine Mary Loperfido; his three children, Patti-jo Loperfido Gear (Tim), Joseph (Amy), and Gabrielle; five grandchildren, Olivia, Mario Joseph, Timothy, Aziz, and Sophia; sister Gloria Jenkins (Raymond); a close-knit circle of cousins; and many beloved nieces and nephews. His brother Vito predeceased him in April 1984.

Mario was born in Camden, NJ to the late Joseph Loperfido and Pasqualina (Pat) Martino Loperfido. He graduated from Camden Catholic High School in 1956 and from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s degree in 1962 where he was an active member of the KSU fraternity. He established Eagle Business Forms in 1971 and worked there until he retired to Ocean City, NJ.

Mario, known for his warmth and deep friendships, will be dearly missed by friends and family.

Philip M. Ellis   

On June 3, 2021; Age 64; Of Mays Landing, NJ; Longtime Cherry Hill Resident; Dear Brother of Paul S. Ellis of Waretown, NJ (Susan Paulosky) and Nancy Ellis of Lindenwold, NJ; Uncle of Michael and Sean Ellis; Brother-in-law of Laura Ellis. 

Philip, a Graduate of Cherry Hill West H.S, was self-employed.  He had a natural talent for music, especially the piano.  Philip was a friend to all, prayed for everyone and will be deeply missed.

Services and Interment are private.

Michael R. Scott

Age 62 of Haddonfield, NJ

 

On June 21, 2021, Age 62, longtime Haddonfield resident; Son of the late Philips B. & Judith P. Scott; Dear brother of David A. (Daneen) Scott of Haddonfield, Linda (H. Clifford, M.D.) Lane of Cabin John, MD & Amy (Paul) Billman of Berwyn, PA and Loving uncle of Natalie, Benjamin & Jennifer Scott, Elizabeth & Katie Billman and Emily & Claire Lane.

Michael graduated from Haddonfield Memorial HS, Class of 1977 and played baseball and soccer for the Bulldogs before attending Penn State University, Class of 1982, where he was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.  Mike was a passionate Phillies fan and a true student of the game of baseball.  He also loved dogs, a good political debate, classic movies and Bruce Springsteen.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Michael’s family will receive friends on Saturday, July 24th, 10 AM, at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield, NJ; where his Memorial Service will follow at 10:45 AM.  Interment, private.  Memorial donations may be made in honor of Michael to The Penn State THON (to benefit pediatric cancer treatment & research) at  www.THON.org or THON-227D Hetzel Union Blding., University Park, PA 16802.

Meredith M. Sloan

Age 39 of Haddon Township, NJ

On June 20, 2021; Age 39; of Haddonfield, NJ; Beloved daughter of David J., Sr. and Margaret Sloan; Dear sister of  David J. Jr. (Jennifer) of Wilmington, DE and Michael M. (Jaclyn) of Moorestown, NJ; Loving aunt of  David J. III, Reid P., Ian W., Gabriel, and Owen; Niece and Goddaughter of  Patrick (Cathy) Gallagher; Niece of Joan Amadio, Claire and Dennis DiMatteo, William Sloan and Susan Sloan.  Meredith also leaves behind numerous cousins.

Meredith was an HMHS Class of 2000 alumni and loved animals.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

John R. Ober

Age 78 of Pilesgrove, NJ; formerly of Voorhees, NJ

On June 14, 2021; Age 78 of Pilesgrove, formerly of Voorhees.  Father of Colleen Kelley of CA, Marylou Marino of Mt. Royal, NJ and Vernon Marino of Woolwich Twp., NJ; Loving grandfather of Sara Chaffin, Rosalia & Francesco Cortese and Russell, Dominic and Giovanni Marino; Great-grandfather of Savannah Chaffin; Dear brother of Gerri Ober-Miller of Gloucester Twp., NJ and Marie Kolpakowski of OR; Uncle of many nieces and nephews; and loving friend to Lucy Cristaudo.

John was a true businessman and entrepreneur.  He was the owner of John R. Ober Co. which handled industrial insulation, ICW, a company that installed interior walls and ceilings, and Super Kwik, a waste management company.  Forty years ago, John along with his late brother Thomas, co-founded Camden Port Services, a transportation and warehousing company in Camden, which later moved to Woodstown, NJ.  John still owned and operated this business.

John was a member of the National Guard and was very involved in Camden and Voorhees politics.  He served as a Twp. Committeeman and was the youngest member of council in Voorhees.  John served on the Advisory Committee for Camden County Solid Waste, was a Board Member of the SJ Port Authority and Chairman of the Planning Board in Pilesgrove Twp.  He was also the Chairman of the Board for the Salem County Improvement Authority.  John will be fondly remembered by all who knew and worked with him.

John’s family will receive friends on Saturday, June 19th, 9–10:30 AM at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Ave., Haddonfield, NJ.  His Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM at Christ the King R.C. Jane A. Harris

Age 97 ~ Longtime Cherry Hill Resident

Age 97, passed away on June 3, 2021. Jane was the beloved wife of the late Thomas M. Harris; devoted mother of Bill and mother-in-law to Annette of Cherry Hill; loving grandmother of Jennifer & Michelle Harris; dear sister of the late Catherine Chance and loving aunt to Catherine Italiano.

Jane proudly served in the US Navy during World War II.  She was a longtime Cherry Hill resident and member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior.  Jane was also a member of the Eastern Star-Chapter #201 in Pennsauken, the Garden State Waves, and the American Legion.  Jane will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Gladys Joyce Greenfield

Age 94 of Haddonfield, NJ

(nee Barbell) Age 94, loving mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on May 30, 2021, at the home of her children in Cherry Hill, NJ. She was born in Camden NJ to Myer and Ida Barbell. Gladys graduated from Camden High School in 1945. She married the late David “Danny” Greenfield in 1955 and started their family, which came to include daughter Michelle, and son, Barry.

Gladys went on to earn her licensed practical nursing degree and practiced nursing at Garden State Hospital (Virtua Marlton). She loved taking care of the babies in the Newborn Nursery. She was often called on by friends to support them in their time of need when caring for the dying on hospice. Gladys was a true comfort for all. Her greatest and most meaningful role was being a loving and dedicated mother and Bubbie. Gladys loved to dance, and she loved the Philadelphia ‘A’s and the Phillies.

To her children and grandchildren, she was a constant source of love and support, who celebrated their lives and their dreams. She provided unconditional love that will never be forgotten by her family, leaving a trail of positive memories to last a lifetime. Her legacy was teaching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild to always be kind, giving, and to love with a full heart.

She is survived by her son Barry Greenfield, her daughter Michelle Romash and her favorite son-in-law Richard Romash. Grandchildren/Great Grandchild, David Romash, wife Tamara and daughter Eleanor Rose, Zachary Romash and Alex Romash.

A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society https://donate3.cancer.org/   or Jimmy V Foundation (Victory Over Cancer) https://www.v.org/  to fight and cure cancer.

 

John J. Skay

Age 74 of Laurel Springs, NJ

On May 22, 2021, Age 74, of Laurel Springs, NJ; Beloved husband of Ruth (nee Webster); Loving father of Sherry Schlagle (Andrew) of Gloucester Twp., NJ and Kelly Gillies (Joseph) of Woolwich, NJ; Cherished grandfather of Brayden & Kylie Gillies and Dear brother of Thomas Skay and the late Margaret O’Brien & William Skay.

John proudly served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.  He was a Machinist at the Phila. Naval Shipyard for 33 years.  John was a longtime member of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church, an avid golfer and most importantly a dedicated family man.

John’s family will receive friends on Thursday Evening, May 27th, 6-8 PM & on Friday morning 10-10:45 AM in the Sanctuary of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church, 29 Warwick Rd., Haddonfield, NJ; his Service will follow at 11 AM.  Interment private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of John may be made to Melanoma Research Alliance, 730 15th Street, NW, Fourth Floor, Washington, DC 20005 (Please indicate that the gift is in memory of your loved one) or via www.curemelanoma.org/tribute.

 

Joyce Walker Odendahl

Age 94, Longtime Haddonfield Resident

(nee Warner) On May 13, 2021; Age 94; Longtime Haddonfield Resident; Devoted mother of Judith A. Walker of Clementon, NJ and Sandra J. (Glenn) King of Barrington, NJ; Cherished grandmother of  Andrew (Janine) King, Alexandria (Kevin) Steward, Ellyn King and Aimee (Jon) Pressman; Dear sister of Charles J. Warner, Jr. of Cape May, NJ.

Joyce was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Haddonfield.  She played the organ at St. Mary’s Home for many years.  Joyce had many hobbies and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, handcrafts and gardening.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

James Arthur Ruby

Age 102, a Collingswood resident, formerly of Haddonfield

On April 30, 2021, Art Ruby, a Collingswood resident, passed away peacefully at age 102.  Art was the devoted husband of the late Beverly Elizabeth (nee Johnson) and the late Evelyn Mills (nee Kuenzel); beloved father of Barbara Oliver, dear step-father of Charles P. Mills (Kitty), Stuart D. Mills (Joan), and the late Nancy M. Thompson (Robert); beloved grandfather of Charles E. Oliver III (Jackie) and Christopher E. Oliver (Jessica), loving step-grandfather of 7; devoted great grandfather of Riley and Jordan Oliver, and caring step-great grandfather of 11.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Haddonfield, Art graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School in 1936.  A World War II veteran, he served in the Third Army under General Patton in the service division (1941-1946).  He also served in the Reserves reaching the rank of Captain.  After the war Art enjoyed a 46-year career with J. B. Van Sciver Furniture in Camden, NJ, working in the factory, sales, and management.

Art’s family will greet friends on Saturday, May 8, at 10 AM at Haddonfield United Methodist Church, 29 Warwick Rd., Haddonfield, NJ 08033, where his Memorial Service will follow at 10:30 AM.  Interment private.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Art may be made to the Church at the above address, where Art was a longtime member.
