Yuri Karjane R.I.P.

A unique soul who quietly touched everyone around him, William Yuri Ivo Karjane passed on 12/01/21 at age 50 in West Palm Beach Florida, leaving a hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Born in Denville NJ in June 1971 to Patricia and William Karjane, Jr, Yuri is survived by sisters Heather and Colleen (& Mike Finnegan), brother Damian (& Nicole), biological daughter Bella, nephews and nieces Sean and Erin Finnegan, plus Rylan, Callie, Brielle and Declan Karjane.
Yuri loved games and adventure. A lifelong athlete he wrestled for Haddon Township High and co-captained wrestling at The George School (class of 1990). He learned  lacrosse at George School, played at Guilford College (class of 1994), and continued to do so into his 40s. He also fished, surfed, golfed, and played tournament poker.
As an independent cameraman and member of the International Cinematographers Union, for Yuri worked on feature films, television shows, and commercials in Hollywood & Atlanta for 25 years. Recently he worked mainly for Tyler Perry Studios.
As a person Yuri was bright, loyal, thoughtful, creative, resilient, and deeply feeling. As a professional, he was competent, efficient, and fun. An animal lover, Yuri was kind to all walks of life, stranger and friend alike.
Now at peace, his spirit continues to bloom in the next life. God Bless.

Theodore J. Flocco, Jr.

On May 10, 2022, age 77, of Mt. Laurel, NJ; husband of the late Maria (nee Baldino); loving father of Ted (Janice), Eric (Dana) and Tara (Carlos) Aviles and cherished grandfather (Poppy) of Marissa, Gianna, Ryan, Stephanie, Kevin, Morgan, Anthony, Natalia, Avianna and Adrianna.

Born and raised in South Philadelphia, he was married to Maria for over 50 years as he raised his family in Marlton and Mt. Laurel, NJ.  He graduated from Bishop Neumann High School in 1962 and St. Joseph’s University in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  He received an award in Philosophy at graduation and served in the National Guard after college.  He worked at Ernst & Young as a CPA for 35 years, retiring as a partner in 2001 and he served a term as President of the Philadelphia chapter of the PICPA.  After retirement, he continued to consult with corporate executives, serve on Boards of Directors and was very philanthropic.  He was a long time member of Tavistock Country Club and Galloway National Golf Club. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing golf, gardening and watching professional sports.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, May 18^th, 6-8 PM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 100 Willow Bend Road, Marlton, NJ 08053 and again on Thursday morning, May 19^th, 10-11:15 AM.  His Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 AM.  Entombment, Calvary Cemetery in the mausoleum, 2398 W. Caroline  M.  Rapone

Originally from Franklinville, NJ, for several years she attended Haddonfield Middle and High School where activities included cheerleading.

The family moved to Spain in 1977 and then to England where Caroline graduated high school and was crowned Queen of the May.  She was very involved in theatrical productions in various countries, the most notable being: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and  Fiddler on the Roof.  Stateside Caroline had worked as a paralegal and production manager in a language translation service. Bilingual in Spanish and English, she was able to manipulate several other languages as well.

Ultimately she married her childhood sweetheart, José Garcia-Guerrera, and settled in Spain before returning to the United States, her most recent residence being Merchantville, NJ.  Caroline had resided in Germany for many years and has two children from a previous marriage with Rolando Rivera, Caroline Rivera and Joseph Rivera (married to Stephanie Luciotti Rivera), including four grandchildren, Carmen, Abram, Vera and Jo-Jo with another on the way. Within her nuclear family, she is survived by her mother, Caroline V Giorgi Rapone; sisters, Nancy Rapone Martin and Norma H Rapone Appleby; and brother, George Rapone.

Paul J. Sweeney

Paul J. Sweeney, loving husband and awesome dad, of Haddonfield, N.J., passed away 9 April 2022, and is survived by wife, Terry, and daughter, Jennifer (Joseph Snodgrass).  Paul loved life and didn’t waste it.  He was equally happy in 115-degree temperatures of Texas and Georgia at the World Shoot, taking a ski run Christmas morning in Grey Rocks or driving home salty and suntanned from day-fishing off a boat at the shore.  He looked forward to entertaining and couldn’t wait to put oysters on the grill or pour a new pint and welcome friends into our home.

Family friend S. Murphy put it best:  “Everyone needs a Paul Sweeney in their lives to know what’s possible and how to do the impossible.”

Susan Soltau Kilham, Ph. D.

On April 12, 2022; Age 79; of Haddonfield, NJ; Beloved wife of the late Peter Kilham; Cherished Aunt of Jessica Scruggs, Thomas Soltau and Andrew Soltau all of Baton Rouge, LA; Dear Great Aunt of Victoria (Ian) Kenyon, Megan & Rachel Scruggs and Robyn Soltau; Sister of the late Edward and the late Thomas Soltau.

Susan was born in Duluth MN and grew up in Florida where she became fascinated with oceans and the organisms that live in them. She earned a BS in biology at Eckerd College and a Ph.D. in marine science at Duke University. She made many important discoveries about marine and freshwater biology including the calcification of deep-sea clams (1 inch long and 300 years old!), biological processes in African lakes, the importance of resource ratios in the growth and competition of algae in freshwater lakes, the effects of climate change on diatoms in Yellowstone Lake, and systems to grow algae in the laboratory. She was a professor at University of Michigan and Drexel University where she and her students contributed to our understanding of ecological changes related to invasive species, climate change, and the biology of tropical streams. Susan overcame many challenges including sexism to become one of the leading scientists in aquatic biology and ecology. The EPA policy on control of endocrine disruptors in the environment is a direct result of her research in that area. Her students continue her tradition of excellence in science and mentorship.

Miriam Pohl Weber

Miriam, age 96, loved her town of Haddonfield, and died on April 14, 2022 in her home there, only a few blocks from where she was born.  She was the beloved wife of Raymond “Ray” Weber for almost 65 years, until his death in 2009.  Miriam (Mimi) is survived by her two children, Patricia Napkori (Joseph) of Chesterbrook, PA, and Bob Weber (Catherine) of Allentown, NJ, five grandchildren, Darius, Ariel, Matthew, Jeffrey, and Bryan, six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Arlene Spotts of Lumberton, NJ.  She is also survived by her loving caregiver of nine years, Nancy Mensah-Kuphe, who was like a daughter to her.

She was happiest when her family was visiting.  Miriam loved children, and taught at the Haddonfield Friends School, followed by teaching kindergarten in Evesham School District until she was 70.  She then was on a committee to help identify children with special needs until the age of 80.  Miriam was a member of the Haddonfield United Methodist Church.   In lieu of flowers, she would have requested donations to her church (www.haddonfieldumc.org), or her favorite charities, Smile Train (www.SmileTrain.org) or St. Labre Indian School (www.stlabre.org).

Tracy Stiefel

(nee Cook)  On April 13, 2022, age 71, lifelong Haddonfield resident; Beloved wife of Frank J., III; Loving mother of Frank J. IV (Holly) of Portland, OR and William of Brunswick, ME; Dear sister of the late Bill Cook and Pat Rock and sister-in-law of Cathy Cook. Tracy put her heart and soul into her family and they loved her deeply for it. There’s nothing she would not do for those she loved, both family and friends.

Tracy worked briefly in the pharmaceutical industry, where she met her husband Frank in Pennsylvania. But she was known for being a dedicated, inspiring teacher of chemistry and biology at Shawnee High School for several years. She also helped educate at CCD and Elizabeth Haddon Elementary School, where she gently guided young people on a daily basis.

Tracy was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, rooting for the Eagles and 76ers with her boys through thick and thin. She also enjoyed playing golf with her family foursome and with the 9-hole league at Tavistock Country Club, where she was a member. Her affinity for music was expressed through song on a daily basis and when singing with the group Local Vocal. Tracy put her heart and soul into everything she did, knitting countless gifts for her family, tending to her beloved songbirds each season, helping raise her family dogs, and cooking something delicious each day. She was endlessly curious and found beauty in the details. Tracy loved sunset swims at the beach while traveling and meeting new people throughout the world, which fueled her compassion for humanity. Her faith in God and resolve to live her life to the fullest never wavered. Her strength was unmatched.

H. Wayne Bancroft

On April 11, 2022; Age 87; of Marlton, NJ; Beloved husband of Susan Martusus; Devoted father of John Bancroft (Michele) of Moorestown, Judy Fornier (Greg) of Mt. Laurel, Joan Lombardi-Duckett (Steve) of DE, Wayne Bancroft (Gena) of Raleigh, NC and the Late Jennifer Ramos Salvito (Tom); Dear Step-father of Michael Martusus, Jonathan Martusus and the late David Martusus. Cherished PopPop of 12 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Formerly of Haddonfield, Wayne went to Moorestown Friends HS and was a 1956 graduate of Princeton, where he was captain of the Golf Team.  He served his country as a U.S. Marine and after an honorable discharge, Wayne started his own business, Merit Cortage, a textile company in Moorestown, building it from the ground up.    Wayne, an avid golfer, was a long-time member of Tavistock Country Club, winning many championships.  In his leisure time, Wayne also enjoyed gardening.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Henry Robert Melzi

Henry Robert Melzi, age 72, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 9, 2022. Henry was born and raised in Bala Cynwyd, PA to the late Robert and Marie Melzi, and had resided in Calabash, NC and Haddonfield, NJ before his current residence of over 5 years, Southampton, NJ. Henry was a 1968 graduate of Lower Merion High School, and a 1972 graduate of Widener University. Henry also received a master’s degree from Villanova University, and a master’s degree from the American College of Education. Henry relished in his work as an educator and enjoyed his work with young people not only as a teacher but as a coach and mentor.

A spiritual person, Henry always had a positive outlook and believed in the goodness of man. He enjoyed the beautiful things in life: art, music, his times at the beach, cooking, sports and above all else, Henry loved spending time and laughing with his family and friends.

Henry is survived by his beloved wife of 11 years, Linda Melzi (nee Chamberlin); children, Anthony Melzi (Laurie), Stephanie Melzi, and Gabrielle Melzi (Cody Krstonich); stepchildren, Matthew Shampine (Claudia), Nicholas Shampine (Amanda), and Kelsey Glenn (Christopher); grandchildren, Sophia, Henry, and Luke; step-grandchildren, Ara, Liam, Hayden, and Cameron. Henry is also survived by his sister Marie Kenis (Michael) as well as niece Lauri and nephews, Andy (Rachel), Justin (Jenna), and Robbie (Kristen); and his beloved dog, Gracie. Henry is predeceased by his brother, Jimmy Melzi.

Henry loved and is loved by many. He is sincerely missed and will be remembered as one of the better people who walked this earth.

Raymond Gale Bauer

On April 8, 2022, Age 87, longtime resident of Haddonfield; Husband of the late Jayne (nee Whitehead); Ray is survived by his daughter Linda Joan Ulshafer and her husband Tom; Three grandchildren Nancy Lynn Ulshafer (Martin T. Quick), Lori Ann Ulshafer and Christopher Ulshafer (Laura); Six great-grandchildren Alex, Natalie, Nicholas, Gia, Antonio and Tessa; Dear companion to Mary Eileen Ott.  He is also survived by Donna Field Amidon (Harry) who is like a daughter to him.

Raymond was the owner of Ray Bauer Associates, a very successful business which he ran for over 25 years, retiring in 2000.  He received several industry awards, and was a  member of many community organizations including the Amerian Legion Post 38.  Ray’s education earned him an Associate’s of Arts degree from Mammouth College in 1955.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1958 from Univ. of Miami.  Ray was a member of Lamda Sigma Tu and Lamda Chi Alpha, where he served as class president.  Ray proudly served his county in the Air Force for 6 years and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.  He was a true animal lover and could bring a smile to anyone’s face.  Ray will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
