Robert J. Aitken, D.O.
On July 6, 2023, Robert J. Aitken, DO, passed away at age 77. A longtime Haddonfield resident, he was the beloved husband of the late MaryAnn (nee Wawrzyniak); Cherished father of Amy Naticchia (Robert) and Nancy Daly (Kyle) both of Haddonfield; Adored Pop-Pop of Natalie, Sarah & Audrey Naticchia and Robert (his namesake), Duke & Marygrace Daly; Dear brother-in-law of Judy Aitken (the late Thomas Aitken) and Uncle of Kristin Aitken-Triano & the late Steven Aitken. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Thomas & Gladys Aitken.
Dr. Aitken proudly served in the US Army as a special agent in military intelligence during the Vietnam War. Prior to going to medical school, Dr. Aitken taught science at Haddonfield Memorial & Audubon High Schools. He graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and began his 37-year career as a family doctor, where he treated his patients like family. For many years, Dr. Aitken volunteered at a clinic in Hammonton, NJ where he treated those who were underserved. He enjoyed running, doing yard-work & house projects, reading, watching movies and was an avid classic rock fan, especially enjoying the Beatles & Billy Joel. Additionally, Dr. Aitken was the world’s biggest dog lover.
Dr. Aitken’s family will receive friends on Monday, July 17th, 10-10:45 AM, at Christ the King RC Church, 200 Windsor Ave., Haddonfield, NJ; where his Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM. Interment, St. Joseph’s Cem., Blackwood, NJ. Memorial contributions in honor of Dr. Aitken may be made to the Animal Welfare Association, 509 Centennial Blvd., Voorhees, NJ 08043, www.awanj.org
