Robert Duncan Hubbard

On October 7, 2022, Robert Duncan Hubbard of Haddonfield passed away peacefully at the age of 94. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Nancy, and son, Robert A., and is survived by his daughter, Barbara Reynolds (Samuel), and daughter-in-law, Michele Hubbard.

Bob was a lifetime Haddonfield resident.  A 1946 graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School, Bob attended Rutgers University, playing football and lacrosse, and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950.

Following college, Bob was stationed with the United States Air Force at Loring Air Force Base in Maine during the Korean War. Trained as a pilot, he flew P-51s as part of the Strategic Air Defense Command for the Atlantic.

Returning to Haddonfield upon his discharge from the service, Bob was employed as a sales engineer for the Warren Webster Company in Camden, and then as a sales and product design engineer for ITT Nesbitt in Philadelphia. In 1972, Bob established his consulting engineering firm, Robert D. Hubbard Consulting Engineers Inc., located on Tanner Street in Haddonfield. For over 40 years he provided mechanical and electrical engineering services to clients, mentored college engineering co-op students, and retired in 2016.  He held two patents on liquefied propane air blender plants and was licensed as a professional engineer in eight states.

Bob was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Haddonfield, and served for many years as Property Chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Other volunteer activities included the participation with the local, national, and international YMCA organization, Haddonfield Y’s Men’s Club, and board member of the YMCA Camp Ockanickon; past president and sergeant-at-arms of the Haddonfield Rotary Club; board member of Cooper Hospital; member of the Delaware and Susquehanna Model Railroading Club and the National Model Railroading Association.

Bob enjoyed working on his Bangor & Navesink model railroad and hosting an annual open house; flying his Cessna 182; fly fishing and camping yearly with his lifetime friends in Presque Isle, Maine, and spending time and sharing stories with family and friends.

Interment will be held on Friday, October 14th, 2:30 PM, at the Haddonfield Baptist Cemetery, 402 E. Kings Highway, Haddonfield, NJ.  Bob’s family will receive friends on Saturday, October 15th, 9:30-10:15 AM, Kain-Murphy Funeral Services, 15 West End Avenue, Haddonfield, NJ; where his funeral service will follow at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Bob may be made to the First Baptist Church of Haddonfield, 124 Kings Highway E., Haddonfield, NJ 08033, and the Rotary Foundation of Haddonfield, PO Box 383, Haddonfield, NJ 08033.
