Peter Van Dyke Bull

Peter Van Dyke Bull passed away peacefully at his home following a courageous battle with arterial sclerosis.

Born in 1938, at Flower Hospital in Manhattan, New York, Peter was raised in Garden City, New York, where he developed the strong work ethic, integrity, and determination that would define his life.

Peter attended Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont, before transferring to Hofstra College in Hempstead, New York. It was at Hofstra that he met the love of his life, Judith Glover. The couple married on January 27, 1962, at Grace Methodist Church in Valley Stream, New York, and shared 57 wonderful years of marriage until Judy’s passing.

In 1966, Peter and Judy made their home in Haddonfield, New Jersey, where they became devoted members of Haddonfield Methodist Church. Peter also proudly served in the Army National Guard until 1969.

Peter began his professional career as a paper salesman with West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company before transitioning into packaging sales in the Philadelphia area. After achieving success with Anchor Container, he founded Taurus Packaging Corporation, representing several packaging manufacturers throughout the region.

In the early 1990s, Peter partnered with his son, Christopher, and another business associate to establish Taurus Packaging and Display. As President, Peter helped grow the company from a small four-person operation located on the third floor of his Haddonfield Mews townhouse into a thriving corporation employing dozens of people. His entrepreneurial vision, leadership, and commitment to his employees and customers remained the cornerstone of the business until his retirement in 2007.

For over 40 years, he and Judy spent all their summers on Long Beach Island.  The little bungalow they bought in 1968 became the center of our family life every weekend in the spring and fall.  And every day from the last day of school until Labor Day.  Countless memories and many great friendships were forged there.

Another passion for Peter was his cars. Over the years, he collected beautiful classics—a 1953 Jaguar, a pistachio green Kaiser-Darrin, his favorite Austin Woody, a 1953 Studebaker, a 1965½ Mustang convertible, a Mercedes convertible, and, of course, the unforgettable 1988 Rolls-Royce convertible which he proudly drove in the annual July 4th Parade for many years.

Peter will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, successful businessman, faithful church member, and friend to many. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the business he built, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication.

Peter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith “Judy” Bull. He is survived by his brother, Steven Bull; his son, Christopher Bull (Jeanne Marie); his daughter, Jennifer Bull (Eric Mason); his granddaughters, Nicole, Michelle, Christy, and Kate; and his great-grandchildren, Margot and Levi.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be a blessing.

A Celebration of Life for Peter will be held on Friday, July 24th from 12:00-3:00pm at Tavistock Country Club 100 Tavistock Ln., Haddonfield, NJ 08033.
