Lawrence “Larry” E. MacCluen

Age 80 ~ Longtime resident of Haddonfield, NJ

Lawrence “Larry” MacCluen, age 80, a longtime resident of Haddonfield, sadly left us on September 9, 2023.  He was the loving husband of Patricia (nee Klammer), beloved father of Eric L. MacCluen (Holly), Kelly MacCluen (Thomas Culligan), Olivia MacCluen and the late Ryan MacCluen and grandfather of Eric W. MacCluen.

Larry was a veteran of the US Army and a former Philadelphia Police Officer.  After his time in the Army, he attended Rowan University (Glassboro State) to earn a degree in physical education while playing tennis.  After school, Larry pursued his love of tennis to the professional level.  He then combined his teaching skills and passion for tennis to establish Children & Adult Tennis Clinics in Haddonfield and Moorestown.  He shared his love and skill for tennis with generations of Haddonfield residents.

Additionally, in his late 30’s, Larry began playing golf.  After years of playing, his once hobby became an obsession and ultimately developed into a new phase of his career.  There were many times when he instructed both tennis and golf lessons in the same day.  Over the last 20 years, Larry became a full-time Golf Instructor, most recently teaching at The Links Golf Course in Marlton, New Jersey.  “Coach Larry”, as his students fondly referred to him, devoted much of his time to making golf and tennis more accessible for underserved communities, those with disabilities, and low-income families.

Apart from his passion for his work, Larry enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and their dogs.

Larry’s family will receive friends & family on Tuesday, September 19, 10-10:45 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield, 20 Kings Hwy. E., Haddonfield, NJ, where the Memorial Service will follow at 11 AM.  Burial will be at Haddonfield Baptist Cem.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Larry may be made to The MDS Foundation at www.mds-foundation.org
