Joseph A. Gillerlain, M.D.
Died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 26, 2023; Devoted husband of Hilda (nee Churchfield) for 75 years; cherished father of Joseph (Sherri) Gillerlain, John Gillerlain, Johannah (Bryan) Dent and the late Timothy (Theresa) Gillerlain; adoring grandfather of Jeffrey Dent, TaraJo Gillerlain, Brady Gillerlain and Jennifer Dent.
Dr. Gillerain was born in Pittsburgh, PA. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1943-1945. In October of 1944 Dr. Gillerlain met the love of his life, Hilda in Charleston, SC while they were both serving in the Navy. They got married on July 2, 1949, and have been happily married for 75 years.
Dr. Gillerlain completed his undergrad at Pennsylvania Military College, Phila. in 1949 before graduating from medical school at Hahnemann Hospital in 1955. After completing med school, Dr. Gillerlain moved to Haddonfield to start his family in 1955. He was a colorectal specialist for 50 years before retiring from medical practice in 2005. He proudly served as Chief of Staff for West Jersey Hospital from 1969-1982.
Dr. Gillerlain was an avid golfer and member of Tavistock Country Club. He was a generous, personable man to many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Dr. Gillerlain’s family will receive friends on Monday, August 14th from 10-10:45 AM, at Kain-Murphy Funeral Services 15 West End Ave. Haddonfield, NJ; where his Funeral Service will follow at 11 AM. Interment private.
