Dorothy Evans (nee Russell)
On December 1, 2025, wife of the late William H. Evans, Jr.; loving mother of Sharon E. Evans of Naples, FL; Lisa A. Evans of Blackwood, NJ; and William D. Evans of Baltimore, MD; cherished grandmother of Jonathan K. Zeyher and Megan E. Zeyher; and great-grandmother of Eli Zeyher.
Dorothy, known as “Dottie,” was a lifelong resident of Haddonfield, who grew up on Wayne Avenue and graduated from HMHS in 1945. She was an energetic cheerleader during her junior and senior years, whose boyfriend and eventual husband, Bill, captained the football team. They married after he completed his service for the Navy in World War II and settled on Pomona Avenue in 1955. Dotttie was a member of the Haddon Fortnightly, volunteered for the First Presbyterian Church, and worked the door for many years at the Stretch-Evans Funeral Home then located at 8 Kings Highway West. She enjoyed traveling and visiting her vacation homes in Florida and New Hampshire, where her hobbies included reading, gardening, knitting, and crocheting. Above all, she loved collecting antiques and, in her later years, spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Dottie loved the neighborhood children around her, especially those next door, whom she fondly called “the Lenny girls,” Erin, Megan, Molly, and Courtney. Those who knew her best will remember her warm sense of humor and will always remember Dottie as being smart, feisty, and kind.
A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held for Dottie on Wednesday, December 10th, 11:00 a.m., at the Baptist Cemetery, 402 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, NJ 08033. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Brandywine Senior Living or the First Presbyterian Church, both in Haddonfield, NJ.
