Doris R. Garwood
Doris R. Garwood, 93, passed away at her home on October 13, 2021. Doris was born in Cherry Hill, New Jersey in 1928, to Laura & Russ Stackhouse.
On July 21, 1945, Doris was united in marriage to the love of her life, William Garwood who passed in October 2000.
Doris found her greatest joy in her relationship with her Heavenly Father. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She poured herself into the service of others from teaching children’s Sunday School classes, co-leading the youth group at Haddonfield Bible Church, leading women’s ministries and always listening to and praying for those in need around her. In her golden years, she could be found comforting sick babies at the Virtua Hospital. Doris’ life of service to God and others has left a Godly legacy for the next generation.
She was affectionately referred to as Grammy not only by her grandchildren but all she met no matter their age. Her gentle spirit and warm hugs were her trademarks. She exemplified the ideal of enjoying every moment of life as she purposely gave each of her children and grandchildren their own special Grammy time. Each has lasting memories of one-on-one adventures with her whether visiting Lancaster, Strasburg Railroad, Smithville Inn, the local bowling alley, picnicking in the park, playing rounds of Yahtzee, or enjoying lunch at a favorite restaurant.
She loved her family and others with an open exuberant heart. What a beautiful portrayal of unconditional love! Her legacy of love is etched into the hearts and lives of all those she touched. Grammy lived well, loved well, and was loved by all.
Doris will be lovingly remembered by her sons Glenn (Betty) and Kevin (Deb) Garwood; her grandchildren: Holly (Kevin) Miller, Glenn Jr. (Danielle) Garwood, Kevin Jr. (Sarah) Garwood, Laura (Adam) Thompson, Justin Garwood, Charis (Ben) Haines, Ryan Garwood and Bill (Caitlyn) Garwood and her great-grandchildren: Jake, Jaxon & Jordyn Miller; Kaylee, Jason & Erynn Garwood; Samantha & Kevin III Garwood; Gavin & Cole Thompson and Theodora Haines.
Visitation for Doris will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2021, from 4 pm – 5:30 pm at the Atco Assembly of God, 615 Jackson Road, Atco, NJ 08004. A funeral service will follow at 5:30 pm. The internment is on Monday, October 25 at 11 am at the Locustwood Memorial Park, 1500 Marlton Pike W, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002.
