William A. Hoeberg
On September 27, 2024, age 91, husband of the late Carol L. (nee Foulks); Beloved father of Jennifer DellaValle (David) of Haddon Twp. and Pamela Powers of Haddonfield; Loving Poppy of Nicholas DellaValle, Riley Powers and Laura Powers.
Bill moved to Haddonfield in 1944, graduated from HMHS and attended classes at Rutgers Univ. He then proudly served in the US Army Air Corps, 511th Airborne Unit as a paratrooper during the Korean War. Bill was always a hard worker, as he started at a young age to help support his family after the death of his step-father. He had a multitude of skills from the various jobs he held. He could paint, wallpaper (very slowly), build small projects, calculate mathematical equations in his head, navigate without any type of GPS and do small electrical jobs. After his marriage to Carol, he was a mailman, worked in the computer IT dept. at a bank and then settled into his main career as a Grain Merchant at Lovatt & Co. in Ambler, PA. Bill was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church of Haddonfield, serving on various boards throughout the years. He was also active at Erlton Swim Club and for many years was the Swim Team starter, referee and Tri-County Rep. Bill loved mowing the lawn, which he did well into his 80’s, was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and loved playing cards Bridge & Pinochle anywhere he could but especially at the 65 Club; where he was proud to be the Bridge Champion 6 times. The friends and companionship he found at the 65 Club really kept him going in the last few years and he was very grateful to Interfaith Caregivers for driving him there twice every week.
Finally, Bill was a devoted family man. He was a wonderful Dad, supporting his girls in their activities, taking the family to the beach in Ocean City, even though he hated the beach and always helping out whenever he could. He was equally dedicated to his grandchildren. He was always willing to watch the grandchildren when they were little and as they grew, he went to sporting events, did carpools, took the grandchildren on trips and sat through even more swim meets. He truly enjoyed his grandchildren’s company and was so very proud of them.
Bill was sweet, witty, well-read, kind and smart all the way to the end. He will be greatly missed.
Bill’s family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8th, at 10-10:45am at the First Baptist Church of Haddonfield, NJ 08033; where his Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment, private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Bill may be made to the Haddonfield 65 Club, 110 Rhoads Ave., Haddonfield, NJ 08033 or to Interfaith Caregivers, 20 Chestnut St., Haddonfield, NJ 08033 (www.ifchaddons.org)
